POST HERPETIC NEURALGIA ( SHINGLES)
Shingles is an infection of the nerves caused by the varicella-zoster virus, the same virus that causes chickenpox. The medical
term for shingles is herpes Zoster. Postherpetic neuralgia is the type of pain that remains in the area of healed rash in
patients recovering from a previous shingles infection. The pain of postherpetic neuralgia may be stabbing, aching, burning,
and constant. Some people can become overwhelmed and depressed by having to cope with ongoing pain daily.

Treatment follows the pain management continuum and consists of pharmacological regimens, and nerve blocks.
Neurostimulation by TENS, and more effectively by spinal cord stimulation has been tried successfully to treat the patients with
Shingles.
